Animal Healing

In the same way that we do, animals have the innate ability to heal themselves, and this is where I step in as a facilitator of that healing, to help them bring their bodies back into balance by shifting and removing energetic blocks that affect their physical and emotional wellbeing, and with their help, relaying any messages they may wish to communicate to you as their guardian.

“The astonishing accuracy of Kerina’s consultation leant so much credence to her abilities/work.

Animal healing works well alongside veterinary treatment as a complementary therapy to support recovery from illness and injury.  It isn’t a substitute for medical help.  Although it is not a legal requirement to ask permission from a vet before having animal healing, if your animal is sick or has an existing condition, I strongly recommend that veterinary help is always sought first.

What is animal healing?

It is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on or off, stress-release technique which promotes a sense of calm and kickstarts the body’s natural ability to heal itself.  Reiki relaxes the body, helps when recovering from illness, can lessen the side effects of medication, as well as work to provide physical relief whilst delivering on a mental and emotional level too.  The net effect is that it helps to achieve homeostasis, whereby the mind and body are brought back into balance.

“I cannot recommend Kerina enough.  She has a very special gift with all animals and it’s wonderful to see the animals taking so much comfort from her work.”

It is important to note, animals are never forced to received healing.  Some may walk away one they have received enough, some will make it clear if they don’t want to engage, while others will deliberately lean in and push parts of their body into my hands or gesture with their heads where they need the healing.

I had a beautiful experience with a horse, who leaned her body so deeply into my hands during a massage that it felt like my hands melted into her and we became one; it was a mutually healing experience for both of us and such a profound and moving moment that I had to hold back the tears.

“She was amazing with our beautiful girl and we could quickly see that Poppy was getting great comfort and relaxation from Kerina.”

What are some of the benefits of animal healing?

One of the main benefits of choosing animal healing and massage is that they both reduce the stress hormones cortisol and norepinephrine and release the wonderful bonding and feel-good hormones oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine.

Animal guardians often report back the relief they feel after gaining insights into how their pet is feeling, and seeing the visible signs of their animals being calm, relaxed and more comfortable after a session.

What can your pet expect to experience during a healing session?

A sense of calm, relaxation, stress release, comfort, release of tension, reduction of discomfort and pain, and the opportunity if they so choose to communicate any messages, issues or changes they would like implemented.

How can you best prepare your pet for their healing session?

Your pet is more likely to settle if they have already eaten and had time to digest, and had a walk (if they are a dog).  Do not book a session at a time when your dog usually has their walk/food, they will know when that time is and will likely have their mind on food rather than relaxing.

“As soon as Kerina began working on him, he visibly relaxed, closing his eyes and becoming much calmer.”

“Kerina is open, honest and thoughtful, and provides a complimentary service to your typical animal care.”

How frequently can your animal have healing?

Healing can take place as and when needed, or in a block of sessions (weekly or every couple of weeks) if treating something specific and more than one session is needed.

When is animal healing not a good idea?

There is rarely, if ever, an occasion when animal healing is not a good idea.

“Kerina was able to pinpoint the cause of stress and remedy it quickly.”

“With Kerina’s insights, knowledge, and healings, we’ve been able to maintain a healthy and happy cat.”

Relax HAO Canine Massage

The main techniques I use, to carry out a series of non-manipulative moves, alongside elements from hands-free, deep tissue and holistic massage that provide a relaxing and calming full body experience for your dog, are effleurage and petrissage.

Not every move is suitable for every dog, but this will be discussed during the consultation so that each treatment is tailored to suit your dog.

The canine massage I have trained in is known as Relax Healing Animal Organisation (HAO) K9 Massage

”I noticed after the session that he held his head up high and was walking with a spring in his step.”

What can you expect your dog to experience during and after massage

A sense of deep relaxation, well-being, and calming of the nervous system which in turn reduces anxiety and stress hormone levels, increased blood and lymph flow, improved circulation, tension release, stimulation of digestive

system, improvement in skin and coat condition, and increased mobility.

What are the benefits of massage?

A relaxed animal is a happier animal and right type of touch can be very healing.  A calming, rhythmical massage soothes the body and switches on the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces the heart rate and lowers blood pressure aiding in the body’s rest and digest functions.

How frequently can my dog be massaged?

Dogs can be massaged as and when needed, or weekly, fortnightly or monthly for their general wellbeing (please refer to contraindications).

Before your animal’s session

Your dog is more likely to settle in their session if they have already eaten, had time to digest (1 hour for a small meal, 2 hours for a large meal) and had a walk.  Do not book a session at a time when your dog usually has their walk/food, they will know when that time is and will be waiting, not relaxing.

“Aside from her obvious gifts and talents she has an excellent knowledge of dog care/nutrition.”

“Kerina was so wonderful to work with and gave us a great deal of practical advice.”

When is massage not a good idea for your dog?

Massage may not take place if;

  • Your dog has heart problems (consult with your vet first)
  • Your dog has cancer (consult with your vet first)
  • They have a broken or fractured bone which has not fully healed
  • They have been diagnosed with clinical shock
  • Fungal infections are present
  • They have a skin infection
  • They have scars in early stages of healing
  • Their skin is fragile
  • They have open wounds
  • Your animal has a virus or fever

“I could see an obvious change in Rio’s behaviour.  He seemed calmer and more confident in his own skin.  I will most definitely ask for more sessions in the future as and when needed.”

Session Investment, duration and terms

  • Canine Massage £50 per session, plus travel to and from your location (£0.45p per mile).
  • Every session is different, but usually lasts between 45 minutes to an hour.
  • I am willing to travel within a 40 minute/20-mile radius of HP21 for treatments.

Relax HAO Equine Massage

What is Relax HAO Equine massage?

Effleurage and petrissage are the main techniques I use to carry out a series of non-manipulative moves, alongside elements from hands-free, deep tissue and holistic massage to provide a relaxing and soothing full body experience.

Not every move is suitable for every animal, but this will be discussed during the consultation so that each treatment is tailored to suit your horse.

What can you expect your horse to experience during and after a massage

A sense of deep relaxation, well-being, and calming of the nervous system which in turn reduces anxiety and stress hormone levels, increased blood and lymph flow, improved circulation, tension release, stimulation of digestive system, improvement in skin and coat condition, and increased mobility.

Before your horse’s session

A minimum of 2 hours after a hard feed must have passed before your horse can be massaged so they have digested and are comfortable.  They may find it difficult to settle if they are hungry.  Please ensure your horse is clean (dry or wet mud is not easy to massage).

It is possible to treat more than one horse in one visit, as long as enough time is allocated, and with a short break in-between each animal, but no more than two animals in one visit.

“Dolly thoroughly enjoyed her massage treatment and that’s the stillest she’s ever been.”

How frequently can my horse be massaged?

Horses can be massaged every 4 to 6 weeks for their general wellbeing – this is a relaxation massage and does not involve the work of physios such as stretching, mobilisation and manipulation.

When is massage not a good idea for your horse?

Massage may not take place if your horse has:

  • Sweet itch
  • Colic, diarrhoea or colitis
  • A fever (temperature over 39 degrees)
  • A systemic infection
  • A fungal infection
  • An open wound
  • An inflammatory condition
  • Fistulous withers
  • Had hard feed in the last two hours
  • Cancerous cysts or tumours
  • Azoturia
  • Acute arthritis or rheumatism
  • Calcification in soft tissues and joints
  • Acute trauma
  • Phlebitis or any other inflammatory condition
  • Severe nervous disease
  • An acute nerve problem such as neuralgia
  • Is pregnant in their first trimester

“Having relished every moment, she is much calmer after her first treatment and she was definitely less anxious being ridden.”

  • Every session is different, but usually lasts between an hour and 90 minutes.

Equine Healing

What is Equine healing?

It is a gentle, non-invasive, hands-on or off, stress-release technique which promotes a sense of calm, releases tension, and kickstarts the body’s natural ability to heal itself.  I use a combination of Reiki healing energy alongside my own energy healing abilities.

I scan the body for problems areas and concentrate on each of the chakra (energy centres) on both sides of the body, holding an intention to heal, to unblock any stuck, stale energy which is disrupting the body’s healing abilities.

What are some of the benefits of Equine healing?

Equine healings is an excellent aid in helping an animal settle into a new environment, or to prepare them for being moved to a new setting.  It is a gentle way of tapping into a horse’s sensitive energy field and making a positive difference without asking too much of them, especially if they are nervous, tired or unwell.

Reiki relaxes the body, helps when recovering from illness, can lessen the side effects of medication, as well as work to provide physical relief whilst delivering on a mental and emotional level too.

What can you expect your horse to experience during and after healing?

A sense of calm, relaxation, stress release, comfort, release of tension, reduction of discomfort and pain, and the opportunity if they so choose, to communicate any messages, issues or changes they would like implemented.

How frequently can my horse have healing?

There is rarely, if ever, an occasion when equine healing is not a good idea.  Healing can take place as and when needed, or in a block of sessions (weekly or every couple of weeks) if treating something specific and more than one session is needed.

It is possible to treat more than one horse in one visit, as long as enough time is allocated, and with a short break in-between each animal, but no more than two animals in one visit.

Before your horse’s session

It is best to have a session when your horse is not hungry, but also at a time when they have had enough time to digest between 1 hour – 1.5 hours.

Session investment, duration and terms

  • £50 per session, plus travel to and from your location (£0.45p per mile).

Animal Guardian Reiki Healing

What is Animal Guardian Reiki healing?

Reiki healing can be hugely beneficial to treat both pets and their guardians simultaneously, as often what is affecting the guardian is reflected in their pet and vice versa.  When you feel happier and healthier in yourself, your animal will sense this too.

I use a combination of my own natural healing abilities and Reiki healing energy to provide a non-evasive relaxation treatment, which takes place fully-clothed and can be given either seated or on a reiki bed.  I work by holding an intention and projecting channelled healing energy through my hands, working either on or off the body to scan for problem areas, and focusing on each chakra (energy centre) to remove any energetic blockages that are disrupting your mental, physical or emotional wellbeing.

Both the front and back of the body are treated and sessions typically last between an hour to 90 minutes.

Benefits to you of Reiki healing

Reiki can help with stress management, insomnia, digestive issues, physical aches and pains, mental and emotional conditions such as anxiety and depression, fatigue, and reducing inflammation to name just a few.

Reiki energy can do no harm; it aids your body in healing itself while in a calm and relaxed state.  Reiki relaxes the mind and body, and can help with emotional release both past and present.  You don’t need to believe in the power of reiki for it to work, but it certainly helps if you remain open and receptive.

Before your session

Please ensure you book at a time when it is quiet, there will be no disturbances, and you have adequate time to complete the session without having to worry about any external factors or feeling like you need to rush.

How frequently can you have Reiki healing?

You can book a healing session as and when needed.  Some people like to have a block of sessions to help with something specific, others every so often, as and when needed.

What can you expect to experience?

There is no right or wrong when it comes to what you may or may not feel during a session.  Some people feel so relaxed they fall asleep, others feel heat, see colours, sense things and feel physical sensations, and others don’t, but almost all report a sense of calm, stress-relief and relaxation during the session, afterwards, or both.

When is Animal Guardian Reiki healing not a good idea?

It is not advised to have healing when there are lots of distractions going on in your environment or when you are going to be disturbed, e.g. a noisy household, roadworks going on outside, or when you cannot turn off your phone or are expecting a delivery.

Session investment, duration and terms
